Classic Movie: The Shop Around the Corner (1940)

This comedy/romance stars James Stewart as Alfred Kralik, and Margaret Sullavan as Klara Novak, two employees at a gift shop in Budapest who can barely stand each other and disagree on nearly everything. Little do they know they are each other’s pen pal and have fallen in love through their letters. This popular film was remade twice, first as the musical In the Good Old Summertime with Judy Garland, and in the 1990s as You’ve Got Mail. The original is a classic and was added to the National Film Registry in 1999.
