Dancing great Bill Williamson (Bill “Bojangles” Robinson) reminisces on the beginning of his career, just back from WWI, when he meets the beautiful singer Selina Rogers (Lena Horne). In flashbacks, Williamson recounts their rise to fame and their off-and-on romance along the way. The musical is a tribute to some of the greatest African-American talent of its day and also features Fats Waller, Cab Calloway and his Band, Katherine Dunham and her Dancers, and one of the greatest tap numbers ever recorded by the Nicholas Brothers. The film was released 81 years ago in July 1943, and was added to the National Film Registry by the National Film Preservation Board in 2001.
