Event Details
After years of suffering from major depression and anxiety, Tory Masters discovered that having a mental health disorder did not mean that she was “crazy” or that there was something fundamentally wrong with her. These were treatable diseases of the brain, and if left unaddressed, they could have adverse effects on all aspects of one’s life. After finally attending a peer-led mental health support group, Masters found that there were others struggling like her, and that meaningful and sustainable recovery is achievable. Since 2018, Tory, who is a Certified Peer Specialist and Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner, has run the East End Mood Disorders Support Group, affiliated with Stony Brook/Southampton Hospital. Come hear about her journey, and about how others can find their own recovery paths.
