Program Description

Event Details

Ella Fitzgerald was the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century. Her voice was flexible, wide-ranging, accurate and ageless. She could sing sultry ballads, sweet jazz and imitate every instrument in an orchestra. Fitzgerald worked with all the jazz greats, won 13 Grammy awards and sold over 40 million albums. She came from a humble but happy family, was shy and reserved, and faced tremendous discrimination, yet she appealed to audiences as diverse as her vocal range. This talk will highlight the amazing voice of Ella Fitzgerald, and remind us why audiences all loved her.
