1,000 Years a Witness is a new documentary series from Sag Harbor resident Bryan Downey. Having photographed many Native tribes around the U.S. as a professional photographer, Mr. Downey’s first film centers around thirteen Shinnecock elders and one child whose combined ages add up to exactly 1,000 years. They discuss the struggle to keep the younger generation connected to their roots with the encroachment of western technology and the loss of traditions. In the words of a popular proverb, “When an elder dies, a library burns with them.”

The film will be made available to you to view online at your pleasure through your reservation to the virtual Q & A with Director Bryan Downey on November 12.
