An Artful Corpse takes readers to the Art Student League of New York in 1967, when famed Regionalist painter Thomas Hart Benton is stabbed to death in the top floor studio. As Benton's enemies list grows to include League instructors, Vietnam War protesters, and members of Andy Warhol's entourage, one art student, Bill Millstein, becomes the prime suspect. There is one problem - Bill has skipped town. However, his classmates TJ Fitzgerald and Ellen Jamieson believe he is innocent. While the police try to track Bill down, the couple's romance blossoms as they work behind the scenes to clear his name. The story weaves real and fictional characters and situations to create a richly textured narrative that brings the turbulent sixties to life.
